What Is Soma?
SO·MA: (n) // [soh-mah] [ from Greek, body] - of or pertaining to the body. One way that God describes his people is as the body of Jesus Christ (the word “soma” means “body” in Greek). This body is to be Jesus to their neighbors, families, friends, and even enemies. This body is called to become more like Jesus daily. Just as the human body needs every part to function, every individual who follows Jesus needs other Christ followers to grow and use their talents effectively. We want to be that kind of community. We are the body. Jesus is the head of the body. Just as a physical body must have a head in order to function, we depend on Jesus to guide and direct our lives, marriages, families, and work. As the body of Jesus we want to continue the work He started, asking people to come back to a relationship with God and caring for those in need. As individuals we are all different and can easily get tired and distracted, but together as a community we hope to be Jesus to our community and become like Him in our lives. For this reason you wont see any new church buildings being built, you wont hear of any new ultra hip programs, and you probably wont find us in the yellowpages. Instead it is our hope that what you see is new people. After all, the Church is People. A body of Christ. Which part are you?
